Zohran Mamdani
Zohran for NYC
New Deal Strategies helped Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral campaign secure the biggest progressive victory of 2025, with a win that electrified the country. In the final 100 days of the NYC primary, our team partnered with the campaign to bolster the political operation and secure a consistent wave of support to build momentum going into the June election.
Our team added critical capacity for outreach to electeds and allies and managed Spanish language political and press outreach. Understanding that time was of the essence and an organized base of support would be key in the final stretch, New Deal Strategies gathered stakeholders in-person for a campaign briefing within ten days of starting our work. Many of the groups in attendance, such as the influential Working Families Party, would go on to endorse in the following weeks. Our team was in charge of executing strategy to build progressive support for Zohran and expand endorsers. We led a regular kitchen cabinet around WFP ranking strategy, made calls on Zohran’s behalf to federal electeds and groups we had relationships with.
The outreach blitz paid off – Zohran secured endorsements from the WFP and Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, and broadened his coalition beyond DSA-affiliated elected officials. Once new endorsers were secured, we put them to work, ensuring that endorsing groups and electeds had a plan to get out the vote for Zohran in their respective communities. Our team organized events across New York City, and were integral in planning Zohran’s Election Day schedule. We advised the communications team on surrogate media moments, including Spanish language and Black media – and helped to fill a critical gap to reach voters across the city.
